Rotational Molding Mold Types

Rotational molding is a versatile process for manufacturing various hollow plastic parts. The rotational molding process uses heat and rotation along two axes to produce hollow single pieces. Molten plastic is injected into the rotating mold, and centrifugal force forces the molten plastic to adhere to the inner walls of the mold. There are several main types of rotational molding molds, which are classified as follows:

  1. Container-type rotational molding parts: These plastic parts are widely used for storage and supply boxes, water storage tanks, and various industrial chemical storage and transportation containers, such as acid, alkali, salt, chemical fertilizer, pesticide storage tanks, washing tanks, reaction vessels, turnover boxes, garbage bins, septic tanks, domestic water tanks, etc., in chemical enterprises, industrial painting.
  2. Transportation equipment rotational molding parts: Mainly using polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride paste resins, various automotive parts are rotationally molded, such as air conditioning ducts, vortex tubes, backs, armrests, fuel tanks, fenders, door frames, gear shift covers, battery casings, fuel tanks for snowmobiles and motorcycles, aircraft fuel tanks, yachts and their water tanks, small boats, and shock absorbers between boats and boat docks.
  3. Sports equipment, toys, and crafts rotational molding parts: Mainly various parts made by polyvinyl chloride paste rotation molding, such as water polo balls, floating balls, small swimming pools, entertainment boats and their water tanks, bicycle saddles, rotationally molded pallets, surfboards, etc. Because rotational molding molds can be made by precision casting, electroforming, and other processes; the surface of the rotational molding parts has a very good "replication" effect on the fine structure of the mold cavity surface. Therefore, the rotational molding method can make the products quite exquisite and beautiful, so it is often used to make products with high ornamental value, especially toys such as ponies, dolls, toy sandboxes, fashion model figures, crafts, etc.
  4. Various large or non-standard rotational molding parts: Rotational molding products are also widely used in various boxes, casings, large pipes, and other parts, such as shelves, machine casings, protective covers, lamp shades, agricultural sprayers, furniture, canoes, camping vehicle tops, sports field devices, planting machines, bathrooms, toilets, telephone booths, advertising display boards, chairs, highway isolation piles, traffic cones, river and sea buoys, anti-collision barrels, and construction barriers, etc. Compared with other mold processes, rotational molding provides us with more design space. Under the correct design concept, we can combine several parts into a complete mold, which greatly reduces the high assembly cost.
